Beneficial Ownership Registry for Tax Transparency

What you can do:

Tell the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, to help implement a public registry of the true ownership of companies and trusts, so we can all know where assets are held, and who benefits from them.

This will ensure people in developing countries as well as Australia get the money that’s rightfully theirs.

Dear Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP,

Minister for Revenue and Financial Services

When people don’t have to be honest about the companies they own, it means they can hide money overseas and not pay their fair share of tax.

If governments in developing countries can’t fund services with taxes, it can often mean the difference between life and death.

Please introduce a law to create a public registry of the true ownership of companies and trusts, where these assets are held, and who benefits from them. Please work to ensure this becomes a new global standard.

This will ensure people in developing countries as well as Australia get the money that’s rightfully theirs.

Eight people in the world currently own the same amount of wealth as 3.6 billion people.*

When people don’t have to be honest about the companies they own, it means they can hide money overseas and not pay their fair share of tax.

This is unfair, and part of the solution includes tax transparency. When companies can hide their profits, governments loose out on funding for schools, hospitals, roads and life saving programs for people.
